Banana, cinnamon & cardamom ice cream

This delicious “ice cream” recipe contains just bananas, cinnamon and cardamom, with the optional addition of dried fruits and nuts. It is nutritious and a great healthy ice-cream substitute for young children and adults alike. Fussy eaters will love it!

Although bananas contain a lot of natural sugar, they make a much healthier ice-cream than the shop-bought variety which is generally loaded with refined sugar. We’ve added nuts and cinnamon to lower the GI content but if you prefer them without, you can simply omit them.
When I first made this for my husband, I made him try to guess what I had used in my new “homemade ice-cream” recipe. He went through a whole list of ingredients including cream and milk before giving up. He was quite shocked when I told him that the only ingredient was banana. If you play this trick on your other half, be sure to drop us a comment and let us know what he says!

Recipe tips
We suggest to top our banana ice cream with crumbled nuts. Remember that small children can choke on nuts. Only give them in a size that they can swallow whole without the risk of choking.
